New Development on the Former Fort Ord: Green Building and Sustainability

I'm Carrie Mann.

Not only on Fort Ord, but new development anywhere is an opportunity to make our lifestyle sustainable for future generations. As our energy costs rise rapidly, as well as our dependence on foreign oil and gas, we naturally look for new and sustainable ways to do things.

Recently we have started a process to build a Monterey Bay Sustainability Resource Center. It will be a place to go (both physical and virtual), to find out anything about sustainability and green building, especially relevant to a community redeveloping a large former base. You will be able to learn concrete things that will help you remodel or design your home, office or neighborhood.

The Center is envisioned to be a place built with sustainable design and green building materials. There may be displays to show you these features in the building. There may be projects, tours and workshops you can take part in. But more than all that, the Resource Center is a concept designed to be the one central resource to direct you - to all green projects and organizations in our area. There are many professionals and existing organizations cooperating right now, in this exciting process to bring a central Sustainability Resource to our Monterey Bay region.
